Ryan Dowd is the Executive Director of a large homeless shelter outside of Chicago, Illinois.

Members of the SHARE Consortium are invited to Kenosha Public Library’s all-staff training featuring a presentation by Ryan Dowd Friday, September 14th from 8 A.M. to noon at UW Parkside’s student theater. Dowd will teach library staffers how to work confidently with homeless patrons. Afternoon activities may follow.

Ryan Dowd,  a homeless shelter director from Chicago, will speak about interacting with library visitors experiencing homelessness. Dowd’s message is extremely valuable to all public service staff who want to best to serve library visitors in need.

Dowd regularly travels the country training libraries, police departments, schools, and other organizations on how to work compassionately with difficult homeless individuals. Dowd is the author of the upcoming ALA book, The Librarian’s Guide to Homelessness. Visit Ryan’s website for more information.

The afternoon session has not been structured yet, but will likely include a more intimate conversation about diversity, equity, and inclusion with Dowd and various local service organizations.
