ALS Seed Libraries Return for 2019 Season
Thanks to the efforts of Kirsten Almo, Director of Edgerton Public Library, and EPL staff and patrons, seed libraries have returned to ALS public libraries for a second season.
Patrons are invited to check out up to five packets of seeds to plant in their gardens this spring. They are then encouraged, but not required, to harvest seeds from the seed library plants they grew to restock the supply for next season. Information on gardening and seed saving is available, and occasional programming throughout the summer helps to reinforce the mission of the seed library: encouraging gardening and seed saving as a means of providing our community a fun and affordable source of nutritious sustainable food.
For more details, visit our seed library web page.
Wisconsin Ag in the Classroom Program to Team Up with Arrowhead Library System
The Wisconsin Ag in the Classroom Program selected “Fresh-Picked Poetry: A Day at the Farmers’ Market” by Michelle Schaub as their 2019 book of the year.
Each year, the Ag in the Classroom program holds an essay contest in conjunction with the book of the year for fourth and fifth grade students and provides accompanying lessons aligned to state standards and educational resources for teachers, librarians, students, and volunteers (available online at wisagclassroom.org/whats-new).
The Ag in the Classroom program will also celebrate National Ag Day in Rock County with the author on Thursday, March 14, 2019. Schaub will visit classrooms, a library, and a farm equipment retailer.
- Join author Michelle Schaub at Milton Public Library (430 E. High Street, Milton, WI) on March 14 from 11:30–noon as she shares her book and light snacks with kids 8 and under. No registration required.
- Then join Arrowhead Library System on their Facebook page for a live-streamed online meet and greet with the author, broadcast live from Midstate Equipment in Janesville from 3:30 to 4:00.
A complete schedule of Wisconsin Ag in the Classroom’s National Ag Day celebration events will be available after March 1 at facebook.com/WIFarmBureau and facebook.com/WIAgintheClassroom.
