Arrowhead Library System in the Community

Latino Community Fair
Arrowhead Library System teamed up with Hedberg Public Library and Beloit Public Library to appear at the Latino Service Providers Coalition Latino Community Fair in Beloit September 30th. The ALS/HPL/BPL booth focused on library offerings and early literacy services. Other local service providers from a range of fields including health, fire/police/safety, education, and more were also on-hand to raise awareness of their services.

Community Baby Shower
ALS and Orfordville Public Library helped welcome Rock County's youngest new residents. Over 300 mothers and their families were invited to this County-wide event focused on teaching infant development and nutrition, as well as on sharing community resources.

ALS gave each of the 62 families that attended a children's book, system-wide storytime schedule, Growing Young Readers brochure, 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten information and sign-up sheet, information on how to obtain a library card/what libraries offer, read aloud routine instructions, and Hoopla/Libby information.

Ask your supervisor for login credentials.

The SHARE test server has been loaded with ALS data, now is the time for you and your staff to test and explore the database and data. A few things to note: The ALS data in the test server was pulled on September 15th. Any new items or patron records that were added since then will not be available in the test server.

Any mapping issues or any data that has errors, let the LLS staff know as soon as possible by submitting a ticket via the Lakeshores Library System Help Desk.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten Update

Now is a great time to reintroduce your patrons to the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program.

100 Books Totebag and "If I Were a Dog" book.

Let Tovah know if you need refills on any of the paper logs, informational materials, or sign-up forms.

Why now?

  • Snuggling up with a book is a fantastic fall activity for these colder days and nights.
  • New children's book suggestions are in the works. Participants who opt in to the tip emails will receive these each week.
  • Each library now has access to their own statistics. Each library should have received login credentials in October.
  • ALS still has plenty of milestone prizes in stock including tote bags and books

How could we promote the program?

  • Host a relaunch event at your library.
    – Story read-and-log-alongs
    – Snacks
    – Prize drawing for signing up
    – Mini-awards presentation for those who are hitting a milestone
    – Dress like your favorite character

    – Incentive display of milestone prizes

If you want help publicizing your event, please contact Tovah

  • Remind parents at each storytime to log the book(s) that were read.

  • Ask patrons with small children at the checkout if they are participants.

ALS Website Committee To Meet
The first meeting of the ALS website redesign committee has been set for November 9th from 2-4 p.m. in Milton Public Library's meeting room on the second floor.

Representatives from each library requesting a site redesign will be present.

Hedberg Public Library Children's Staff member and author, Jamie A. Swenson, celebrated the release of her newest easy reader series featuring Woof and Quack with a reading and reception for all ages October 10th.

Cake, book sales, and signing followed the reading. Profits from book sales will be donated to benefit the library.

PLSR Workgroups Presented at WLA Conference

Members of each PLSR work group presented their models at the Wisconsin Library Association Conference in mid October. Each session was recorded and will be released along with the presentation slides soon. Watch for an e-mail about their release.

Interested in speaking with or having a Steering Committee member visit you? Send an email at steeringcommittee@plsr.info and they’ll find the time!

"Thanks to everyone that was able to attend the Workgroup sessions at WLA at the Kalahari. There were many people that went multiple sessions and some even made it to all seven! The workgroups deeply appreciate the community’s interest and dedication to staying informed and offering their feedback. The comments and questions were incredibly thoughtful and helpful.

Of course, it was not possible for everyone in the library community to attend any or all of the sessions. Therefore, with the help of Mark Ibach of the South Central Library System, each session was video recorded. These recordings, along with session PowerPoints and one-page overviews are now available on the PLSR website, all on a single page, as well as on each workgroup page.

The questions asked and the feedback given during the sessions will help the workgroups as they finalize their work. If you have feedback or questions about particular workgroup ideas, you can use the contact formto communicate with specific workgroups. You are also encouraged to share your thoughts with the Steering Committee, who can be reached through the contact form as well.

We also heard that it would be helpful to know what questions have already been asked (and possibly answered). So, we’ve created a new feature on the PLSR site that will share questions that have been asked of the workgroups, Steering Committee, and project managers. The list is not comprehensive but does contain the more recent and most frequently asked questions."
